Local Charity Challenge has Concordia Students Helping the Hurting

A group of nine undergraduate students at Concordia University Wisconsin, known as We Are Tomorrow (W.A.T.), is taking part in a charity challenge aimed at helping those less fortunate in the Milwaukee area. The challenge involves student groups from not only Concordia, but Wisconsin Lutheran University and Marquette University.

Their mission began on January 27th when the teams gathered at The Bradley Center prior to a Milwaukee Bucks game where they received instructions on this year’s challenge. Each team was given $1,000 and must use the money to reach as many people as possible. The team that uses the money the wisest will win among the teams at their Schools and go on to compete against the winners of the other two schools.

There are five teams competing from Concordia. We Are Tomorrow is made up of students who are members of The Society for Advancement of Management (S.A.M.). Their goal is to help as many people as possible. To do this they are gathering monetary donations as well as items such as: food, clothing, medical and school supplies, through February 14th. Their efforts are being concentrated within the five county Milwaukee Metro area (Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Washington, and Waukesha Counties).

“This is our chance to make a difference; we’re putting action to empty words,” said the Captain of We Are Tomorrow, Beth Barbaglia. “We’re focusing our efforts on getting donations and then volunteering our time to causes that help the hurting,” Barbaglia added.

On February 16th the team will make a final presentation on their efforts and will then find out if they make it to the next round to take on the winning teams from the other Universities.

Another goal of the challenge is for each team to reach 20,000 people with their mission statement. We Are Tomorrow’s mission statement is as follows: We are students of today and ambassadors to the future. To help our Brothers and Sisters is to nourish the condition of the heart. It is not the material we give, but the hope we instill. We are the leaders and innovators, striving to help the hurting. We are servants and Disciples. We Are Tomorrow.
