Families Take Advantage of a Free Booster and Car Seat Check Event

Oct. 29, 2009 | 0 comments

The Kohl’s Tour for Kids Safety stops at Bayshore Pediatrics in Glendale, Wis.

It is important that everyone in a vehicle buckle up every time they ride. But how do you know if you have the correct seat for your child? How do you really know if your car seat is installed correctly? Statistics show that more than 90 percent of car seats are not installed correctly – and car crashes are the No. 1 cause of death to children.

Many families got those questions and more answered during a recent booster and car seat check event. The Kohl’s Tour for Kids Safety travels throughout eastern Wisconsin offering free booster, car seat and bike helmet fitting events to families. The Kohl’s Tour rolled into Bayshore Pediatrics where certified car seat technicians checked and installed seats for 20 families.

“Some car seats need just a few minor modifications, such as tightening the seat in the vehicle or making the seat’s straps fit snugly on the child,” said Jane Howard, event coordinator, Children’s Health Education Center. “However, other seats are too old or have been recalled and need to be replaced.”

Many parents commented that they didn’t know their seat was being used incorrectly and praised the importance of the free service.

The Kohl’s Tour for Kids Safety next will be in Saukville, Wis., on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Visit BlueKids.org/KohlsCares for more information. If you’d like to schedule an appointment at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Booster and Car Seat Clinic, call toll-free (877) 607-5280.
