Sports Notes: Sept. 15

Shorewood Table Tennis Club to sponsor Badger Open

The Shorewood Table Tennis Club will again sponsor the Badger Open on Sept. 19-20 at Center Court Sports Complex, 815 Northview Road, Waukesha.

This is a USA Table Tennis 4-star rated tournament with more than 200 athletes competing for $8,500 in prize money. Continuing the success of last year's tournament, some of the best players from throughout the country will showcase their talent in Waukesha, including Dan Seemiller, the U.S. men's Olympic table tennis coach and six-time national champion. Also competing is Han Xiao of Maryland who is currently ranked 11th in the United States.

Milwaukee resident and player Linda Leaf, president of the Shorewood Table Tennis Club, said there will also be an any age recreational event for players, who would like to participate in a tournament. Trophies will be awarded for the top four players. Recreational players may walk in and sign up by 8:30 a.m. Saturday. For information, go to the Shorewood club's Web site shorewoodttc.org.

Homestead boys soccer team sponsoring sock drive

The Homestead boys soccer team will be collecting socks on behalf of the Sojourner Truth House at its home game with Port Washington at 7 p.m. Sept. 29. Homestead is located at 5000 W. Mequon Road, Mequon.

New socks of all styles and sizes for adults and children are welcome.

The Sojourner Truth House is a domestic violence shelter for women and children.
