Bay athletes successful in Hershey track meets
Emma-Kate Stecker of Whitefish Bay followed in the footsteps of her brother, James, a two-time WIAA state relay champion, when she won the 100 and 200-meter dashes in the girls 11-and 12 year old class of the 34th annual Hershey Track and Field meet held at Wauwatosa West High School on June 25.
Stecker was joined in the winner's circle by fellow Bay athlete Van Bassindale who won state titles in both the boys 200 dash (24.8 seconds) and the softball throw (213 feet-10 inches) in the age 13 and 14 category.
Meanwhile, Freddy Poorman won the boys 13 and 14 800 run.
Stecker's brother was a runner on both the 400 and 800-meter relay teams that won WIAA state titles for the Blue Dukes at the meet in La Crosse June 4, while the 13-year old Bassindale will be an eighth grader at Whitefish Bay Middle School in the fall.
Regional winners from 57 communities throughout the state came to compete in nine events in three age groups.
As state champions, the athletes qualified to compete in the North American Track Meet in Hershey, Penn., August 4 to 7.
Mee-Kwon Women's Golf Results
The event for July 5 featured the longest putt on hole No. 3 for flights A and B and on hole 15 for flights C and D. Winners include Class A - Penny Scheibach, Class B -Sharon Roth, Class C - Adeline Kohn, and Class D - Linda Klimowicz. Chip-ins were recorded by Jane Patterson on hole No. 8, Camilla Levin on No. 9, Pat Riordan on 15 and Diana Troyk on 16.
Birdies went to Cindy Hopfensperger on 14 and Troyk on 16. 18-hole honor scores went to Meg Wold with an 86 and Patterson with an 87.
Schroeder divers advance to nationals
Schroeder Diving had 11 divers qualify for the 2011 Summer Zone C Championships, held July 7 to 10 , at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo.
The participating divers included Calli Head of Fox Point, Beth Dwierzynski of Elm Grove, Rachel Stave of Greenfield, Rachel Margis of Racine, Dana Gau of Waukesha, Nate Cox of Menomonee Falls, Erik Larsen of Mequon, Andy La Fleur of Mequon, Will Sass of Elm Grove, and Alex Cashmer and Anna Christenson of Bayside.
Seven of the divers qualified from this meet for the national competition to be held in Tennessee. Head qualified for platform and three-meter; Dwierzynski advanced in platform, Cox will go in platform, three-meter and one-meter; Larsen will advance in platform and three-meter, La Fleur qualified on platform, while Sass did the same, and Cashmer advanced in the one-meter and three-meter competition.
The Schroeder Diving Team is coached is by Todd Hill, who also coaches NCAA Division 1 diving at UW-Milwaukee.
