ELECTION UPDATE
Below is a listing of the seats on local school and village boards, plus a municipal judge seat, that are up for election April 3. As information becomes available, we will update this column to let you know who is - and is not - running for re-election. Additional information about the elections can be found at your local school district, village or city hall. A primary election will be held Feb. 21 if necessary.
BAYSIDE
Seats: two Village Board trustees
Who's running: incumbents James Peterson and Daniel Muchin plan to seek re-election.
BROWN DEER
Seats: three School Board and two Village Board trustees
Who's running: School Board member Dennis Lowder has announced he will not seek re-election.
FOX POINT
Seats: two Village Board trustees
GLENDALE
Seats: mayor and Common Council seats in districts 2, 4 and 6
Incumbent Mayor Jerry Tepper will seek re-election. Tepper, 70, lives at 2140 W. Green Tree Road with his wife, Mina. They have three adult children and three grandchildren. Tepper has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and law degree from Marquette Law School. He is a self-employed attorney. Tepper was first elected mayor in 2006. Mayors serve three-year terms and earns $5,700 a year
JoAnn Shaw, 50, will seek re-election to her 6th District seat on the Glendale Common Council .Shaw, a licensed customer service manager at the Derek Parker Agency of American Family Insurance, lives at 5792 N. Argyle Ave., with her husband. She has a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a certification in Human Resource Management from Cardinal Stritch University. She was first elected to the council in April 2006. Council members serve two-year terms and earn $2,700 a year.
MEQUON
Seats: three Common Council members in districts 6, 7 and 8; three Mequon-Thiensville School Board seats
Ann Brownfield, longtime Mequon-Thiensville School Board member, will not seek re-election, but newcomer Stephanie Clark will make her first run at elective office, seeking one of three open seats on the School Board. Clark, 47, lives with her family at 11154 Sutton Ridge Drive, Mequon.
She earned a B.A. In English, minor in Psychology at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., and a Master of Humanities at the University of Richmond, Richmond, Va. She has been active the past five years as president, PTO Area Council, co-president of both Steffen Middle School and Homestead High School PTOs, clerk to the Vestry of St. Boniface Episcopal Church and the Mequon-Thiensville Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. School Board members serve three-year terms and are not paid.
RIVER HILLS
Seats: two Village Board trustees
SHOREWOOD
Seats: one School Board member; village president, two Village Board trustees and municipal judge
Who's running:
Incumbent Village President Guy Johnson will seek re-election for another three-year term. Johnson, 65, lives at 2423 E. Shorewood Blvd., is married and has two children and three grandchildren. Prior to being elected president in 2006, Johnson served as a trustee beginning in 1998. He has a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's of business administration. He is retired. The village president earns $1,300 yearly.
Donal Demet previously announced he will seek re-election as municipal judge; incumbent Jeff Hanewall is also seeking re-election to the Village Board.
THIENSVILLE
Seats: village president and two Village Board trustees
Who's running: Van Mobley has announced he will run for president.
WHITEFISH BAY
Seats: three School Board members; two Village Board trustees
Who's running:
Incumbent Pam Woodard is the third candidate for three open seats on the Whitefish Bay School Board in the April 3 election. Woodard, in her 17th year on the board, was first elected in 1993. She and her husband, Blane, live at 4942 N. Diversey Blvd. and have three adult children. Woodard earned a B.A. in political science from University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and did graduate work in public administration. She has a long-term volunteer position as chief facilitator for the Wisconsin Character Education Partnership.
Incumbent Kathy Rogers and challenger Anne Kearney previously announced they are also running. Members serve three-year terms and earn $1,000 per year.
NICOLET-AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS
Nicolet School District: two seats
Longtime Nicolet School Board member Marilyn Franklin will seek re-election April 3, but incumbent Jennifer Peltz will not seek another term. A former English teacher, Franklin was first elected to the Nicolet Board in 1988 and has served continuously since then. She was a member of the Fox Point-Bayside School Board from 1977 to 1989. Franklin, 66, lives with her husband at 7870 N. Regent Road. She has two adult sons and four grandchildren.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary education. Members serve three-year terms and earn $1,000 a year.
Fox Point-Bayside School District: one seat
Fox Point-Bayside School Board member Debbi Friberg, 47, will run for re-election. Friberg, who lives with her family at 6475 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point, is completing her first term on the board. She has an elementary education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and is the area director for AuPairCare and an executive secretary at Congregation Beth Israel. Members serve three-year terms and are not paid.
Glendale-River Hills School District: two seats
Maple Dale Indian Hill: two seats
