Committee formed for
superintendent search
Fox Point - The Fox Point-Bayside School Board last week created an ad hoc committee to select a consultant to search for a district administrator to replace Rachel Boechler, whose resignation was approved by the board last month.
The committee is made up of three board members and two community members. They will interview three consultants before bringing their selection to the School Board for final approval. The committee is hoping to have a decision in the next few weeks to start the search process as soon as possible.
Student art on display at
Milwaukee Art Museum
Milwaukee - The Milwaukee Art Museum's annual Scholastic Art Awards exhibition features works by Wisconsin students grades seven through 12, including students from Mequon, Whitefish Bay and Shorewood.
More than 1,000 individual artworks from more than 100 schools across the state participated in the competition.
Gold and Silver Key winning artists are on display in Schroeder Galleria and Pieper Gallery now through March 17. Shorewood High School winners are Tristan Blum, Malulani Bria, Asia Cruz, Marcus Hoffman, Noah Kelber, Madeleine Leplae, Veronica Lourich, Karina Marti and Addy Mckeown.
From Homestead High School, the winners are Noah Mitchelson, Collin Murray, Erin Ochocki, Svetlana Tenges and Karli Wittenberg. From Lake Shore Middle School, the winners are Katherin Gebhardt, Rachel Heinrich, Ansley Laev and William Stegeman. From Steffen Middle School, the winners are Jenna Buraczewski and Becca Yenter.
Whitefish Bay High School winners are Charlie Fairbanks, Abby French, Lauren Quirk and Anderson Ruppa.
Residents asked to help
in superintendent search
Glendale - The Nicolet School Board wants school district residents to participate in the process of picking a new superintendent to replace Rick Monroe, who is retiring June 30 after six years with the district.
An open forum for district residents to identify needs and establish the desired characteristics of the next superintendent will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Nicolet Community Room, Room F106, at Nicolet High School, 6701 N. Jean Nicolet Road, in Glendale. Nicolet High School serves students living in Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale and River Hills.
Residents can also provide feedback by responding to an online survey; the survey can be accessed from Nicolet's website, nicolet.k12.wi.us, by clicking on "Nicolet Superintendent Search Survey" under the "News & Information" section on the right side of the home page. The survey must be completed by 3 p.m. Feb. 18.
The School Board on Jan. 28 announced the selection of consulting firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to assist with their search. In addition to recruiting and identifying candidates, HYA consultants will assist with interviews and facilitate board discussions regarding candidates.
Fox Point police collecting used cellphones
Fox Point - The Fox Point Police Department announced that it is collecting used cellphones to benefit Advocates of Ozaukee County, the domestic and sexual abuse shelter for that county.
This program is sponsored by Shelter Alliance a part of GRC Wireless Recycling, the "largest cellphone recycling program in the county" according to a news release.
Through this program, the advocates receive a stipend for each phone, and the phones do not end up in landfills.
All cellphones and smartphones can be dropped off at the Police Department, 7300 N. Santa Monica Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.
