North Shore communities will celebrate Independence Day with parades and other festivities.

Bayside

Anyone interested in taking part in Bayside's parade should assemble at the east entrance of Bayside Middle School, 601 E. Ellsworth Lane, by 8:45 a.m. July 4. Trustees will hand out flags to all participants. Parade entries, including scooters, bikes, strollers and wagons, should be decorated. Prizes will be awarded for the most patriotic decorations.

The North Shore Fire Department will lead the parade east on Standish Place, north on Greenvale Road to Hermitage Road and west on Ellsworth Lane. The parade will conclude at Ellsworth Park, where ice cream will be served to all parade participants.

In addition this year, there will be a Top Dog contest with a prize for the most patriotic dog. The contest is sponsored by Andrew Appel, owner of Community Bark.

Brown Deer

In Brown Deer, children should gather at the Dean Road service drive at 52nd Street between 1 and 1:15 p.m. July 4 for the Kiddie Parade. Children 7 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. The main parade begins at Brown Deer Middle School, 5757 W. Dean Road, at 1:30 p.m., and travels north to the Village Park via 51st Street. The parade marshal is Jeff Bersch.

Children are invited for ice cream near the 1884 Schoolhouse Museum in Village Park. Music, games, bingo, tours of the 1884 Schoolhouse, food and beverages are available throughout the afternoon in the park.

The pond is open from noon to 5 p.m. Fireworks are at 9:30 p.m. The beer tent closes at 11 p.m.

Fox Point

Anyone interested in participating in Fox Point's parade should assemble at 8:30 a.m. July 4 in front of the Fox Point police station, 7300 N. Santa Monica Blvd. The parade, which begins at 9 a.m., will travel north on Santa Monica Boulevard to Lombardy Road, west on Lombardy to Bell Road, and east on Bell Road to the Longacre Pavilion, where festivities will continue until noon.

Activities at the pavilion include a jazz trio, free ice cream and beverages, an annual softball game and, for the kids, clowns and face painting.

Glendale

Because of road construction on Glendale's normal route, this year's parade route has been relocated.

This year's children's parade participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. July 4 at the southeast corner of Green Tree Road and Milwaukee River Parkway. Drop off children via Green Tree Road as Milwaukee River Parkway will be closed for the parade route. The children's parade begins at 10 a.m.

The main parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at Edward Lane and Milwaukee River Parkway and travel south along the Parkway to Bender Road. The staging area for main parade participants will be at Milwaukee River Parkway and Edward Lane. Approach the staging area from Good Hope Road to Milwaukee River Parkway.

The parade is part of a three-day Glendale Days celebration that begins at 5 p.m. July 2. There is music, food, bingo, talent shows, softball games, carnival rides and more throughout the three days. There will be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. July 4.

During the festival, the city will celebrate its 60th anniversary at 2 p.m. July 3 with free birthday cake courtesy of Regina's Bay Bakery.

Shorewood

Shorewood's parade starts at 3:30 p.m. July 4 with participants lining up at the corner of Kensington Boulevard and Oakland Avenue. The parade will travel south on Oakland to Shorewood Boulevard and end at Shorewood High School. This is a new route because of the construction on Capitol Drive. Dan Zens is the 2010 parade marshal.

Children's activities, free ice cream and games will start at 4:30 p.m. the school's athletic field.

Beginning at 6 p.m. in Atwater Park, there will be food, music and a flag ceremony followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Whitefish Bay

The Whitefish Bay parade, which starts at 11:30 a.m. July 4, begins at Kent Avenue and Silver Spring Drive, head east on Silver Spring to Lake Drive and end at Klode Park. Whitefish Bay School District Administrator Jim Rickabaugh will be grand marshal.

There will be a flag-raising ceremony in Klode Park at 1 p.m., followed by music and games. The day concludes with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
