At this special time of year, thoughts turn toward expressions of thankfulness. It is with this in mind that I share how grateful the staff of the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District is for the caring supportive community, School Board and administration of the district.

The community, which showed its exceptional understanding of the need to keep our district strong financially by passing the referendums, gave a vote of confidence to the decision making of the Board and administration, as well as the direct teaching of the students.

The board, in its wisdom, guides the district, but trusts the decision making of the administration and staff. The current board has the most humane enlightened individuals of any board in the last 20-plus years. They understand that the staff, administration and board are true partners in providing for the education of the children attending the district's schools.

All this having been said, however, it is the administration, particularly the principal/superintendent Mary Dean, who is at the heart of the success of the district. She fosters the relationships between the staff, board and parents. She is open to new ideas, encourages diversity of students, families and teachers. She models respect and encourages communication between all parties interested in the education of the students. She is a strong believer in the importance of fine arts in developing well-rounded individuals besides providing strong academic programs.

For all these reasons, the staff of Maple Dale-Indian Hill say thank you. We will endeavor to maintain the level of excellence that the community, School Board and administration expect of their school district.
