Summer library program was a hit thanks to many
Public Forum:
The North Shore Children's librarians would like to extend sincere thanks to all those who contributed to a very successful summer library program. More than 850 children from Glendale, Fox Point, Bayside, River Hills, as well as surrounding communities participated by reading and attending library events. Every summer children in the North Shore are motivated to visit our library and to continue reading throughout the summer because of the reading program.
Thanks to our main sponsors, The Friends of the North Shore Library and the Fox Point Foundation, who put the spark into the 2009 program Be Creative. They enabled us to include talented performers and generously supported us in many ways. This year kids flexed their creative muscles by building a large K'NEX bridge, dressing as Fancy Nancy or Dapper Dan at a special teatime story time, building creative constructions, preparing art projects and much more.
We'd also like to thank the many organizations who granted us reading incentives. Locally, kids enjoyed prizes from Pizza Hut, the Next Chapter Book Shop, Cousins, Breadsmith, Noodles & Company, B.D.'s Mongolian Grill, Art Trooper, the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, and J.K. Lee Black Belt Academy. Children were also happy to earn coupons from the Pettit National Ice Center, Old World Wisconsin, the Wisconsin State Fair, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Daniel M. Soref Planetarium, First Stage Children's Theater, Discovery World, the Milwaukee Festival City Symphony, the Betty Brinn Museum, and the Milwaukee County Zoo. The generosity of all of these organizations is tremendous, and we are grateful for their assistance.
