Cary honored by Medical College Marquette alums
John Cary of Mequon, executive director of the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Fund, has been named an honorary alumnus of the Medical College of Wisconsin Marquette Medical Alumni Association and a member of the Alumni Association.
Cary was honored for his dedication to helping children with cancer and his staff leadership of the MACC Fund, which has provided funding for research in pediatric cancer and related blood disorders at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Cary has been executive director of the MACC Fund for 27 years.
Ludwig named Underwood professor at Medical College
Dr. Kirk Ludwig of Whitefish Bay has been named the first Vernon O. Underwood professor in colon cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The endowed chair was created by California businessman Vernon O. Underwood to support research investigating the causes of colon cancer and its treatment. Underwood donated $1 million to the college to create the chair.
Ludwig joined the Medical College faculty last year as associate professor and chief of colorectal surgery and associate professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology. He is based at Froedtert Hospital.
Schwartz successor Next Chapter opens in Mequon
Next Chapter Book Shop is now open at 10976 N. Port Washington Rd., Mequon, in the Mequon Pavilions. The shop was formerly a Harry W. Schwartz Bookshop.
Mequon Pavilions is owned by Centro Properties Group.
Breitbarth receives public service award
Wayne Breitbarth of Mequon recently received the 2009-2010 Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Public Service Award. The award is given to a member of the organization who has distinguished himself or herself in public service activities at the local, regional and state levels.
Breitbarth teaches financial education seminars to high school students through the Make a Difference Wisconsin program and serves on the organization's board of directors. He is also a member of the board of directors of Community Warehouse, a nonprofit, faith-based provider serving people in Milwaukee with affordable home and facility improvement materials.
He is a member of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Accounting Careers Advisory Board and is a youth leader at Eastbrook Church in Milwaukee.
Metropolitan Builders announce award winners
The Metropolitan Builders Association recently announced the winners of its annual awards competition.
In the Building category, Wade Design & Construction, Mequon, received an honorable mention for residential remodeling project under $150,000. Techteriors of Mequon received a gold award for a brochure in the Associate Awards category.
Northshore Power Systems donates generators
Dorrance Noonan of Whitefish Bay, chief executive officer of Northshore Power Systems, presented three portable generators to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada at the Honeywell Generator booth at the National Hardware Show held recently in Las Vegas.
Joe Kampschroer of Whitefish Bay, vice president of retail sales at Northshore Power Systems and Joe Lauerman of Germantown, the firm's marketing materials manager, also attended the presentation.
Sieger wins person of the year leadership award
Mary Sieger of the Institute of Supply Management, Milwaukee, received the national Institute of Supply Management's Leadership Person of the Year Award at its recent conference in Charlotte, N.C.
During her term as president of the local affiliate of the Institute of Supply Management, 11801 W. Silver Spring Dr., Sieger set growth and programming goals intended to attract new members. She broadened the organization's outreach program, resulting in the establishment of scholarship programs and closer working relationships with universities.

Flooding hits the North Shore
Five North Shore police departments are teaming up on a new blog that provides residents with the crime prevention and safety tips, and news about community service projects and events throughout the area.
