Districts work to share services, save money
Public Forum:
School board members and administrators from the four school districts in the Nicolet High School system continue to meet regularly for the purpose of finding ways to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and enhance program offerings by sharing services.
An announcement in 2006 described how the school districts of Glendale-River Hills, Fox Point-Bayside, Maple Dale-Indian Hill and Nicolet pledged to commit to a formal process on behalf of the communities and schools. Today the list of shared services includes the Nicolet Area Transportation Consortium; curriculum coordination and preparation of eighth-graders for Nicolet; drug and alcohol education; teacher sharing between Nicolet and Glendale-River Hills, foreign language, and Glendale-River Hills and Fox Point-Bayside, orchestra; nursing services for all kindergarten through eighth-grade districts; and operations director and the business office between Maple Dale-Indian Hill and Glendale-River Hills. These districts also are members of the North Shore Exceptional Education Cooperative along with the districts of Shorewood, Whitefish Bay and Brown Deer.
Based on the success of these cooperative efforts and a desire to find better and less expensive ways of doing business, the superintendents and business administrators of the Nicolet system meet regularly to review the progress and effectiveness of existing arrangements and explore new sharing opportunities. Three times a year, board representatives join the superintendents for updates and discussion. The superintendents from these school districts also have been meeting with other districts when a situation presents itself for broader sharing of services. The cooperation among the four districts has never been more positive and energetic.
