Incumbent seeks to keep on representing district
Public Forum:
As a Nicolet School Board member these past seven terms, I've taken seriously my responsibility of representing all taxpayers - both those with and without children in the schools. I know firsthand our community has invested numerous resources into making Nicolet High School a school of excellence. For that reason, I feel the obligation to safeguard our educational investment through sound fiscal practices while continuing to provide students outstanding academic opportunities.
Public schools today face many uncertainties and economic difficulties; there are less resources available to meet escalating needs. My following election priorities, therefore, reflect a continuing commitment to all taxpayers and support of educational excellence for all students: fiscal responsibility, commitment to provide a quality education for all students, fostering a supportive school environment, continued curriculum coordination/cooperative programming/discussion of shared services between Nicolet and its feeder schools, awareness of proposed educational/legislative initiatives, effective communication, marketing Nicolet, continued utilization/enjoyment of the Nicolet facility and programs by all residents.
Now, more than ever, the success of Nicolet rests with the leadership of board members. Unsettling economic times will require the board to make difficult decisions regarding staffing, class size, offerings, facilities and supplies. Legislation from Madison and the school funding formula need adjustment so that Nicolet, like others with declining enrollments, isn't overburdened and forced into eliminating much of what has made it so outstanding. It's therefore important that an experienced and knowledgeable board member be re-elected.
In the 21 years I've served on the board, I've worked hard to represent all members of this large community. I've been accessible, open-minded and receptive to public input. I've acquired an objectivity gained from 100 percent attendance at all regular and committee meetings, participation in community and parent groups, four terms on the Fox Point-Bayside School Board and personal knowledge of post-high school options. Most importantly, I've no personal agenda; when decisions must be made, I've respected the input of the professionals and balanced that with the concerns of parents, students and taxpayers. I know choices made now will long impact and affect all our lives, regardless of age.
I promise my continued diligence in this position of responsibility and trust. Eagerly, I seek re-election to the Nicolet board and the opportunity to again represent the students and you.
