Nicolet Superintendent Monroe announces retirement

Nicolet Superintendent Rick Monroe will retire at the end of this school year, the district announced in a news release this morning.

Monroe, who has been Nicolet's Superintendent since 2007, announced his retirement at a special faculty and staff meeting today.

"I've been thinking about it since August, and over Thanksgiving break I had time to think and reflect on it," Monroe said. "I said 'yes, the time is right.'"

Monroe began his education career in 1976 in the Milwaukee Public Schools system as a special education teacher. He served in MPS for 19 years before becoming Principal of St. Francis High School and later Shorewood High School.

At this point, Monroe said he isn't considering any other employment options after retirement, and timed his announcement to allow the school board to find a suitable replacement by the beginnning of the 2013-14 school year. 

He said that he will focus on moving forward with district goals and the district's goals and strategic plan before his retirement.

"I have six months left," Monroe said, "and I want to make them the most productive six months in my career."

Monroe's retirement will be effective July 30.
