Frederick M. DeBoe Sr.

Frederick M. DeBoe Sr. of Glendale, formerly of Geneva, Ill., Luling, La., and Hammond, Ind., died June 15, 2009, at age 90.

Fred was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He served his country as a captain during World War II in the U.S. Army Ordinance in the Pacific Theater and at the Pentagon. Fred worked as a mechanical engineer for the Union Carbide Corp. as the head of operations maintenance at the Whiting, Ind., plant. He could fix absolutely anything.

Fred was a gentleman with a great sense of humor who loved practical jokes and was well known for his intelligence, good taste and wit. His children admired him for his ability to rise above life's challenges that began at an early age with the loss of his parents. In spite of this, he provided his kids with an upbringing rich in the arts and culture as well as his inherent ability to be a nurturing father.

Fred loved to play bridge and always enjoyed a good round of golf with his wife and friends and Wednesday night bowling with his buddies.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mae DeBoe (nee Lemoine); children, Jeanne (Steve) Johnson, Frederick (Rosanna) DeBoe, Delores (Tim) Jacobson and Barbara Schmal; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John DeBoe.

A memorial service and interment were held June 18 at Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter, 6130 W. National Ave., Suite 200, Milwaukee, WI 53214.

The family thanks Dr. S. Soryal and the staff of Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Vitas Hospice Center, Sharon Scher at Laurel Oaks, and his dedicated caregivers Annie, Barbara and Mamie.

Feerick Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
