Michael J. Floyd Sr.

Michael J. "Mick" Floyd Sr. of Sheboygan Falls, formerly of Mequon and Whitefish Bay, died April 30, 2009, at age 70.

A native of Denver, he graduated from the University of Denver in 1961. He received his graduate degree from The School of Banking in Colorado. He was dedicated to helping people improve their lives throughout his 50-year career in banking.

He began his professional career as a commercial loan officer trainee for the United California Bank in Los Angeles. In 1967, he was hired by The First Wisconsin National Bank System, where he served in many roles, most notably as the president of The First Wisconsin National Bank of Rice Lake, vice president of First Wisconsin Bankshares Corp. and president of the First Wisconsin National Bank of Fond du Lac. In 1979, he founded and later served as president of The Bank of Fond du Lac and was a shareholder and president of The Bank of Spooner, The Bank of Hayward and the Bank of Milwaukee.

Later in his career, he founded and operated a mortgage banking and consulting business, helping residential homeowners and small-business owners.

He was a workout nut, enjoying everything from skiing to marathon running. He loved golf and played countless rounds, dispensing lessons of life and the game all at once.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy (nee Birkett); children, Jennifer (David) Tighe of Whitefish Bay, Michael (Patty) Floyd Jr. of Whitefish Bay, Susan (Charles) Potter of Mequon, Dan (Megan) Floyd of Chicago, Maggie (Brian) Sewart of Mequon and Annie (Floyd) Trujillo of Denver; grandchildren, Christine, David, Kevin and Patrick Tighe, Michael III (Jack), Quinn, Kelly and Seamus Floyd, Henry, Max and Eleanor Potter, Colleen, Sean and Erin Floyd, Jimmy, Tommy, Oliver and Danny Sewart; brother and sisters, Dennis (Ginny), Bernadette (Jim) Recker and Melissa (Mike) Meyers; sisters-in-law, Jean (Ed) Walker and Carole (John) Manning; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Jane; brother and sister-in-law, David and Judy Floyd; and parents, Roy and Helen Floyd.

Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated May 5 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, Mequon. Private interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Marquette University High School's Sponsor a Student Program, 3401 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53208; or the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, 1621 N. Taylor Drive, Sheboygan, WI 53081.

The family thanks Mark Bettag and his staff as well as the Hospice Care Givers.

Feerick Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
