M. Gertrude Stemper
M. Gertrude "Gert" Stemper (nee Leidgen) of Milwaukee Catholic Home, formerly of Shorewood, died April 21, 2009, at age 89.
She was a noted jazz singer and an accomplished golfer playing in several state amateur tournaments. She loved to end her day by cooking a great gourmet meal along with a glass of Early Times.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Jim) Elsener, Jay (Joanne), Frank (Nancy), Suzanne Stemper Johnson, Mergee (John) Donovan, Joan (Mo) Modrinski and Kristine (Tom) Wilson; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, June, Gloria and Carol; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John A. Stemper.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 25 at St. Robert Catholic Church, Shorewood. Private interment was held.
Memorials are suggested to the Hunger Task Force, 201 S. Hawley Court, Milwaukee, WI 53214; or Second Harvest Food Bank of Wisconsin, 1700 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53205.
