Joan Elizabeth Hensel Mosby

Joan Elizabeth Hensel Mosby of Brookfield died March 26, 2009.

She was born Aug. 20, 1917, and was raised in Syracuse, N.Y., graduating cum laude from Syracuse University in 1937 and from Clark University in 1938. She served with Military Intelligence Service in Miami, where she met Wade Mosby. She volunteered for the American Red Cross in 1944. She served from 1944 to 1945 as Aero Club director, 305 Bomb Group, in Chelveston, England, and in St. Trond, Belgium. Joan and Wade married in 1946.

She volunteered throughout her lifetime.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Mosby (Thomas) Adler of Lexington, Ky., Sally Mosby (Bruce) Mittlesteadt of Hartford and Scott Mosby of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Carter (Trudy) Adler, Noah Adler and James Mittlesteadt; great-grandchild, Rabeya Renee Adler; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade H. Mosby; parents, Grace Leibhart and Charles Gillman Hensel; and sister, Grace Hensel Thompson.

Memorial service was April 18 at the Congregational Home, Brookfield.

Memorials are suggested to the Wisconsin Historical Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

The family thanks all of Joan and Wade's friends and colleagues over the years, as well as the caregivers, helpers and friends who made Joan at home at the Congregational Home in Brookfield.

Shimon Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
