Barry's the Man!

Business, climate change, County Government, Election, Energy, Government, News, Politics, Presidential Politics, Religion, Smoking, taxes

It was only a couple of short weeks ago in which the people of America were asking, "where are the jobs that the stimulus package was supposed to create? Where is the recovery that it was supposed to produce?" The response from the Obama administration was that it's still too early to look for results because only 8 to 12% of the money allocated towards the recovery act had been paid out.

After one week of a strong gain in the Dow Jones industrial average, President Barack Obama came out on Friday and said that the weaker than expected decline in GDP was completely attributable to the recovery act. Well, we knew this was coming. Going back to that economics 101 class that we had, Americans understood that recessions will come and go. The anti-capitalists in the government today would like to reduce the business cycles by converting the United States to a communist country, but until they complete that, we may be fortunate enough to have capitalism around for another six months.

It is now quite clear that the banks and other financial institutions scream against government interference, but when they screw up money matters badly, they scream for the government to help them.   It seems that when they are making money and getting huge bonuses they bravely broadcast against the government, but when things get tough, help!  They want all of the benefits and bonuses but none of the risks.  Disgusting.  This is only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to our current capitalist beggars.  Since Ronald Reagan schemed in the White House to secret arms deals with Iran for money to support the illegal Contras, the double standard among wealthy right-wingers has been rampant.  Perhaps the saddest part of it is how they have used lobbyists to hood-wink the average American.

By all accounts, the Cash for Clunkers program has not only worked but has been a huge success.  The federal government came up with a wonderful way to jump-start the auto industry in the U.S. AND get rid of some of the old gas-guzzlers.  One problem: the auto dealers, those local capitalists, have tried to scam the system in many places.  They had signed deals with customers to sell a car, then they pulled the old double-switch and told the customers that the car price was higher but don't worry you are still getting a good deal with the government's help.  And now some dealers are complaining that they are selling too many cars and hate to wait for the government's reimbursement.  There is no end to greed.

It is important that I pause here to thank all the people who posted comments on my blog.  It is greatly appreciated.  Such loyalty is amazing.  ALL of your comments support my blog's perspective.  The difference is between those who realize this, and those who do not.  In any case, thanks.

After years of carrying the pure banner of Christian principles and family values, the conservatives have been uncovered for their two-faced lives.  Hypocrisy, found in both political parties, was used majestically by the conservatives.  They condemned every moral slip by "the other guy."  JFK, Teddy Kennedy, Bill Clinton were favorite targets of the hypocritical right-wing.  But as immorality and double-standards in the right-wing became abundantly clear, there is now a hint that their judging the other guy may stop.  There is hope.  But those who practice such two-faced lying hold onto their deception firmly.

There should be no need to go to a list of immoral activities by right-wingers.  It is all-too-common to try and hide.  George W. Bush's early years have been touched-up a bit.  Ronald Reagan was a playboy in Hollywood even while married.  Newt Gingrich had a lifestyle that could only be termed "sleazy."  Henry Hyde led the fight to impeach Clinton while he tried to cover up his own adultery.  The list goes on.

Lefties: Waiting to Implode

Business, climate change, County Government, Election, Energy, Government, News, Politics, Presidential Politics, Religion, Smoking, taxes

The progressives and liberals in Congress don't seem to get it. As they continue to try to shove unwanted legislation on the proverbial throat of America, they are turning a blind eye to the growing opposition. When the lefties oppose policies, ideas, and the people who are less radical than they are, they call it grass-roots protesting. When the citizens of the United States protest the liberal socialist agenda, they are called a manufactured mob.

As Congress takes a recess and goes back to their respective districts for town halls, listening sessions, et. al, they are being met with increasing opposition by their constituents with increasing tempers, yet they still have their heads up their butts and believe that the vast majority of Americans are yearning for government takeover of health care.

WFB Trustee Meeting 8/3

Assessments, Property Taxes, Trustees, Village Board, Shorewood

It's been a slow summer for blogging the Village.

Here's what went on last night at the WFB Village Trustee meeting:

  • A new Villager was appointed to the Library Board, Georgia Mavrinac, who previously served on the CDA. Thank you for your efforts.
  • We had a public hearing and debated the Cumberland project. This had been debated months back, but the Village had inadvertently missed the driveway apron assessments.

Just a refresher .. the Village (all of us) pay for 70% of (most) street repairs. Individual homeowners pay 30%, based on their frontage. Driveway aprons are paid for 100% by the homeowner.

So while no one is happy with assessments, the project costs $244k, property owners pick up about $73k, plus or minus. The entire driveway apron project is paid for by owners.
  • We had a public hearing and debated the "Sanitary Sewer Relay Project" of 2009, where we are replacing relays and laterals around 10 blocks of the Village. Of greatest concern to residents, naturally, is that the sewer laterals (from the main to your property line near your sidewalk) is paid for by each property owner, at around $2800 each.

WFB's sewers were laid decades ago.
  • We also started the discussion about 2010's Sewer/Lateral project, whereby another set of 10-20 blocks of sewers will be maintained. A public hearing is tentatively set for the next Trustee meeting, which is September 14th.

Finally the most interesting item from last night was a presentation by Shorewood and its developer "WiRED Properties" for the Location Formerly Known as the Mobil Station across from Wick's liquor on Oakland.

CRG Recall Advocate Gets Dose of Own Medicine

Political Smears, Senator, Smoking

Puff away.

That's what <strong>CRG</strong> recall advocate <strong>Bill Savage</strong> wants the public to be able to continue to do in bars.  Savage is bent out of shape that State Senator Jim Sullivan supported Governor <strong>Jim Doyle</strong>'s proposal which will make all bars smoke free by 2010.  For years, non-smokers have complained that they were unable to go out to local taverns without having to breathe second hand smoke from cigarettes.  They contended, and medical science backed them up, that second hand smoke contributes toward respiratory problems and can even cause restriction of veins and arteries.

Savage was so upset with Sullivan that he organized a recall attempt against Sullivan.  Anyone who looked at Sullivan's record already knew he was in favor of smoking bans.  Having authored the smoking ban while serving as an Alderman in the City of Wauwatosa, Sullivan wasn't afraid to let it be known what he stood for.  Sullivan then went on to successfully run for the State Senate seat in what is clearly now a sore spot for Savage.

Well it looks like Savage has become the victim of his own pro-smoking advocacy.

He recently suffered a heart attack and had a quadruple bypass done; all by the way, at taxpayer expense.  You see Savage is a member of Republican Representative <strong>John Pridemore</strong>'s staff.

Savage and other anti-Sullivan bellyachers have been claiming that the recall attempt is non-partisan.  Well it turns out, that's not the case.

SILVER SPRING STRIKES OIL ...... and vinegar.

Silver Spring, School, Property Taxes, Wisconsin, Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation

The Plan Commission's August 18th meeting schedule was posted and they will be considering "Oro di Olivia" for a permit to move in to 338 E. Silver Spring, which is right next to Berkeley's in the former "Creme" spot.

A google search yields ODO's website:

Apparently .. they sell .. Oils and Vinegars. They list a 'Tosa store, which means they are branching out or moving to new digs.

If Silver Spring gets a "Salad" store, we'll be all set.

UPDATE: The agenda lists two items .. ODO is to go into 338 Silver Spring, and the Fox-Bay Condo Sales to go to 318. But right now, the Fox-Bay office is at 338. So either the agenda is wrong or the Fox-Bay office is moving from 338 to 318.

In this week's mail, the WFB School District sent out an annual "Executive Summary" for the 2009-10 budget.

Previously, I had caught some flack for the seemingly innocuous idea that because the State of Wisconsin was dropping WFB's State Aid by $1.27m, our property taxes would go up.

I can't seem to get the numbers reported in the newspaper to jibe with the "Executive Summary" .. but the result given in the official mailing is that our Tax Levy increase will be 5.61% if adopted by the School Board.

Again, with some quick math and a guess on a $350k house, the bill will be going up about $160 when you get your statement in December, which is half of my original guess.

Lastly.. the final "Ice Cream Social" will be held this Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm, hosted by the WFB Civic Foundation with entertainment by the WFB Community Band at School House Park in front of the Library.

If you haven't been to one of these .. it has a simple premise: FREE ICE CREAM with your neighbors and fellow villagers, while listening to the Band.

Click here to visit the Civic Foundation website for more details.

Seriously, how great is that? Classic Whitefish Bay.

(And an obligatory plug. The WFB Civic Foundation is funded entirely by YOUR donations .. consider a donation your WFB Party Tax. Click here to help out!)

Obama to Seniors: Drop Dead!

Business, climate change, County Government, Election, Energy, Government, News, Politics, Presidential Politics, Religion, Smoking, taxes, County Government

President Barrack Obama is leading the Democrats in Congress and asking them to pass a bill which will create government takeover of health care and health insurance. He is doing this to save cost and reduce deficits-so he says. Anyone who has any knowledge on these subjects clearly knows that this is a bald-faced lie. It's going to cause higher deficits in the future. The deficits are going to be higher than, well, now. And this year's deficit in his quadruple what it was for the previous deficit. Even higher than the Bush administration.

Government takeover is also going to mean rationing for the regular citizens. That means anyone who is not in Congress or the executive branch. If America's health care system is so bad, why doesn't Ted Kennedy go to Canada? Why doesn't Chris Dodd go to Canada? Those hypocrites are going to seek medical care here in the United States where they know it is the best healthcare in the world but want you as a citizen to think otherwise.

As Rush Limbaugh refers to Obama's plans as Nazi, he totally misunderstands what Nazi philosophy is.  It is an extreme right-wing perspective.  I don't think even Rush thinks Obama is a extreme right-winger.  I guess trying to label Obama as a socialist didn't work, so try the other direction.  Sad.

The Nazi and fascist philosophy was tied up in Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.  Hitler especially was helped to power by American capitalists who financed him.  It is well established about what direction Nazi and fascist perspective heads.  You will find it is a right-wing philosophy.  Quotes:

Ice Cream, WFB Facebook & internet sites...

Use any search engine to find tons of undemocratic material posted by the right-wing, the neocon thugs.  [see below for a suggestion]  They tell you how to stop any health care reform.  They suggest that you go to town hall meetings of U.S. Senators and Congresspersons, disperse in the crowd to make you look like a bigger group, and then begin shouting as soon as the town hall opens for questions.  And keep shouting and shout louder and be more aggressive and threatening to the leader of the town hall.  This is the "democracy" of the right wing in America.  It is exactly how the Nazis came to power in Germany.  They turned democratic gatherings into melees and disruptive fights.  There is no room for the opinions of others.  There is no room for democracy for the right-wing, period.

With the obvious need for health care facing us, why would people lie to prevent it?  Under the current, heavily flawed system, it will bankrupt the U.S., and with poorer results than in nations with universal health care.  We spend much, much more than the industrialized nations who have better health care outcomes.  How and why would people lie, cheat, give out misinformation, connive, scheme, distort, scare, shout, confuse, and use all sorts of thuggery to prevent health care reform from happening?

Right-wing groups have said that the AARP opposes health care reform.  That is blatantly a lie.  The AARP is spending money in the media  to promote health care reform and criticize those who use lies and scare tactics to prevent reform from happening.  Is it just the highly-paid lobbying of the insurance companies?  That accounts for some of it.  But it is somewhat understandable inasmuch as these insurance companies have been bilking the public and playing a shell game with coverage to garner immense profits.  But there is more to this story of disception.

There Are Too Many Facts 'Out There'

Business, climate change, County Government, Election, Energy, Government, News, Politics, Presidential Politics, Religion, Smoking, taxes

There's been a lot of attention lately steered towards the disruptions of the town hall meetings being conducted by members of Congress. Much of the focus has been on blaming the danger on Republicans and conservatives. Yet the media outlets will agree that the more that people find out about this health care reform bill, the less people like it.

After six months of shipping hugely costly ineffective bills through Congress and having the president proudly proclaim that we have done something, America is finally waking up. On days of good economic news, the Obama administration probably takes credit for the effectiveness of the stimulus bill. On days of poor economic news, the Obama administration shies away saying that only 8% of the bill has been paid out in there has not been enough time for it to work. Are we not supposed to recognize that these accomplishments have effectiveness based upon unrelated data? Apparently not.

Doyle Gone; Can He Be Forgotten

Business, climate change, County Government, Election, Energy, Government, News, Politics, Presidential Politics, Religion, Smoking, taxes

Governor Jim Doyle has announced that he will not run for a third term. My jubilance is short-lived because I'm still reminded of all of the things he has done over the past 6 1/2 years to screw up the state.

He is raised every fee and tax in the state with the possible exception of one; the sales tax. This increased spending at the state level of over 7% forcing local governments to raise property taxes to make up for the shortfall while the economy continues to contract. Thousands of jobs have left the state in recent years because of the poor tax climate created by the Doyle administration. Although he did convince one company to come to the state to set up shop bringing a whopping four jobs with them.

Over 30 years ago I moved away from Wisconsin.  When I left the state I thought that our governors were about average for U.S. states.  After a few years,  I was watching TV in Kansas City and saw an interview with the Governor of Wisconsin, Tommy Thompson.  I was absolutely shocked.  I thought to myself, "Wow, the people of Wisconsin have made a terrrible mistake in electing this guy.  He is a buffoon at best."  I sure was wrong,  He was re-elected.  Now having moved back to Wisconsin, I still cannot understand why that guy was ever elected to anything.  He is an embarrassment to this state.

Perhaps it was Thompson's drinking.  Perhaps it was his womanizing.  And with the revelations coming out about other state governors, especially Republicans like Thompson, perhaps my opinion of governors was too high from the beginning.
