I sometimes wonder how anyone could think of voting for Barack Obama in the upcoming November election. With that economy looming, liberals, Democrats, and water carriers are all spewing the same talking points again and again. What sets the question, what are Americans supposed to? Are we supposed to accept 8% unemployment as normal? Is 1% growth in GDP now considered to be great? Is the tax system that is already burdensome supposed to be considered too low?
Let's see if we're better off than we were four years ago. The financial crisis just beginning, President George Bush and Congress enacted TARP to prevent the economy from falling off a cliff. The money was to be paid back. As banks paid back the money, the Obama administration had taken over by that time, used it to spend on their own crony capitalist projects. In return, we got a stimulus bill that did not stimulate, a healthcare bill that is going to accelerate bankruptcy of this country and other jobs bills that went nowhere.
Even with the Congress of his own party, Pres. Obama could barely enact legislation that he campaigned on. He campaigned continuously on a unifying message that would bring Americans together. We are now more polarized than ever before. President Obama refuses to take responsibility for any of his policies that are causing the economy to continue to stagnate. When will the president wake up to the fact that he was elected to solve these things? Evidently, it was too much work. He's clearly in over his head.
As an alternative, Mitt Romney is not faring as well as he should. Like Pres. Obama, he sometimes acts as if all he has to do to win is to not be the president. Negative campaigning will only go so far. It's time for Mitt Romney to give us a message of why we should vote for him. He needs to be clear about his vision. He needs to be consistent about a message.
Elections usually are decided with the economy being the main issue. But what do we have? We have both sides saying that the other hip policies that have not worked. Can they both be correct? What direction does America need to go? We’re clearly on the wrong path. We can't continue to borrow $.40 of every dollar spent from the government. We can't only half of Americans paying taxes. We can't expect the rich to pay for everything. We can't continually hand out money to throw believing that they cannot help themselves. We know what does not work, now to find the answer of what will.
