The Mediocre Divider

We are about to the halfway point of the Obama administration. And what do we have to show for it? Are we better off than we were two years ago? Are we on the right track? Can the damage of this administration be reversed?

Congress is out of session so nothing will be done until after the election. The session after the election, known as a lame duck session, more accurately known as a lame Democrat session, will be forcing through spending bills for the fiscal year that began October 1. Will the Congress consider tax cuts? Most notably extending the Bush era tax cuts? The scenario could not be a better one for Democrats. They get to spend money like crazy, raise taxes by not even bringing up the issue, and when things go wrong will be able to blame someone else. What could be easier?

The Democrats were elected in 2006 and 2008 to clean up the progress of mass made by Republicans since the turn-of-the-century. They did not. Why? They keep using the excuse that it was just too hard. Well, they accepted the paychecks. And many of them want to come back. President Obama and vice president Joe Biden have been racking up the miles on Air Force One and Air Force Two trying to convince the American people that they have put America on the right track. They were going to change the way business is done in Washington. They did not.

President Obama has shown very little in terms of leadership. He did not unite the country. He doesn't want to unite the country. He does the only thing that he knows how to do -- get people fired up by being in campaign mode. You will be looking forward to next year, when he can be in full campaign mode for himself again. Then things really won't be done.

Why would we reelect a president in this day and age who has passed policies that have continued to devastate the economy. Obama and his union buddies only want to attend rallies and demand jobs from the private sector. But none of these people know how jobs are created. The Obama administration believes that they can create behaviors by the American people that will steer the country to a green economy. He believes he can redistribute the wealth. Once an end is put to wealth, what will be left to redistribute? What kind of vision is this for the future?

Two years ago, the United States is a country badly divided and was looking for reasons to become united. If we are all pulling in the same direction, there is little that can stop us from accomplishing great things. Yet, we are more divided today than ever. The leader reelected two years ago to unite the country has yet to show up. This November's election will be a referendum on the Obama administration. All midterm elections are referendums on the current presidency. But will the shakeup needed to get America in the right direction again be big enough? We can only hope.

We are almost exactly where we were two years ago. The country is in a mess, the economy was going nowhere, and the president was out of touch. All we had was hope. Now, all we have is hope along with two years of disappointment. Two years of failed policies. Two years of pointing fingers at someone else to blame for the mess. What America needs now is to years of effective solutions. Two years of successful policies. Two years of engagement. Will we get it? We can only hope.
